Police Service
These non-civilians protect and serve the population. The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) is responsible for recruiting police service personnel.
The Police Service Commission is responsible for recruiting the Commissioner and Deputy Commissioners of Police. There are an estimated 6,500 police officers in T&T.
It is to be noted that Municipal Police are not part of the TTPS but are part of Local Government.

Defence Force
This military arm of the State comprises the Regiment, Coast Guard, Air Guard and Reserves. Some 5500 persons are employed to protect Trinidad and Tobago.

Fire Service
Fire prevention and firefighting are the core focus of the 2700 personnel in the Fire Service. The Public Service Commission is responsible for hiring fire officers.
- Approximately 2,700 fire officers work in fire prevention and firefighting across Trinidad and Tobago.
- The Public Service Commission is responsible for recruiting fire officers to protect lives and property.

Prisons Service
Over 2500 Prison Officers of various ranks are responsible for the operations of prisons, correctional and rehabilitations centres and other holding facilities of offenders. The Public Service Commissions is responsible for hiring persons in the Prisons Service.
- Over 2,500 officers work within the Prisons Service, managing correctional facilities and rehabilitation centers.
- Officers are hired by the Public Service Commission to ensure the safety and rehabilitation of inmates.

In-service training certification in relevant specialisation.

Successful completion of Grade 3, Certification in Theory and Practical of Music from a recognised institution.
Minimum of 1 year experience playing a musical instrument.
Successful completion of Grade 5, Certification in Theory and Practical of Music from a recognised institution.
Basic training in Police Induction Training Course (6 weeks).
Minimum of 2 years experience playing one or more instruments.
Successful completion of Grade 8, Certification in Practical and Theory of Music from a recognised institution.
Certification in relevant for specialised role.
Minimum of 5 years experience in the Police Service including 2 years relevant for specialised role.
Successful completion of Grade 8, Certification in Theory and Practice of Music from a recognised institution.
Minimum of 8 years experience in the Police Service including 2 years as a Police Bandsman II.
Approved training in Band Administration or equivalent training such as the Band Master's course offered at "Knella Hall England" or equivalent.
Minimum of 10 years experience in the Police Service including 5 years in composing/arranging/conducting music and 2 years as a Police Bandsman III.
Diploma in Music from a recognized School of Music.

Successful completion of examination conducted by the Public Service Commission for promotion to the level of Fire Station Officer.
10 years in the Fire Service including 5 years experience repairing Fire Service vehicles and equipment and 2 years as Fire Sub Station Officer.

Brigade Command Course (such as that offered at Morton and Marsh (UK) or equivalent.
16 years experience in the Fire Service including at least 6 years at a senior managerial/administrative level.
